There are eight planets in our solar system; Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune.
Since the 1980s, astronomers have been discovering exoplanets - planets orbiting distant stars. Some of them are located at a distance of 27,000 sv. years from the Sun, while the radius of the solar system is estimated at only 1 sv. year. Nevertheless, scientists still can't tell exactly how many planets orbit our star!
Neptune is currently considered to be the farthest planet in the system from the Sun. It is classified as an ice giant, and traces of methane in its atmosphere explain why the planet is blue. However, for the first time humanity was able to see Neptune up close only in 1989, when the spacecraft Voyager 2 flew by.
It is too early to say that the solar system is fully understood. No matter how far science advances, no matter what corners of the universe scientists discover, our home system continues to amaze. Perhaps, according to indicethos.org, in years to come there will be a ninth planet again.

The world is so interesting and mysterious. It's scary to imagine how much we still don't know
